Big Daddy Kane at Southpaw this Fri 3/25 w/ Brand Nubian…

(via Complex.com)

Classic New York hip-hop comes together in Brooklyn for this benefit show, the proceeds from which will go to Positive Seeds, a community organization that works with young people in at-risk communities. Big Daddy Kane, he of the thick rope chain, has been steadily appearing live for the past several years even though he hasn’t released a record since 1998. Rumor has it that he has taken up residence in North Carolina, where he is known to jump onstage when other old-school acts come through town.

THE WEEKEND@SOUTHPAW..

Founded by NYC-based dj/producer Scribe in the Summer of 2009, with a Dream Team of resident romantics, Wax Poetics, Halcyon, Raw Fusion, Great Weekend, and Fusicology present this monthly all-vinyl oasis on 4th Saturdays, at the Gallery Bar at (Le) Poisson Rouge. I Love Vinyl: On the B-Side is a Brooklyn extension of the franchise which began with a huge blowout at Brooklyn Bowl in the Spring of 2010. On the B-Side moves to Southpaw in 2011. All-stars Master Khan (Great Weekend), Ge-Ology, Amir (Kon & Amir), Scribe, OP! (Decon) and Jon Oliver (The Main Ingredient/EVR) comprise the Dream Team. The sounds are mind-wide, foot-friendly, and snap crackle popping. Anything is fair game, but you will probably hear some soul, disco, dilla, boogie, hustle, hip-hop, old-school house, no wave, new jack swing, dancefloor jazz, latin, funk, electro, and afrobeat. No pretentious bullshit, no dress code, no commercial radio nonsense, and no laptops allowed. I LOVE VINYL is FRIDAY, MARCH 11. DOORS 10PM.

Andy Friedman, who The New Yorker aptly calls, “A true Artist,” will be playing his entire new album LASERBEAMS AND DREAMS on this night. It will be preceded by a set of Andy’s other widely (and deservedly) critically praised material. A great artist all of Brooklyn should be proud to call our neighbor. Andy brings his poetic storytelling and great songs for the hometown crowd this weekend at Southpaw. Also on the bill are Welcome Wagon, Jen Chapin, and Session Americana.

Madison Square Gardeners Daytrotter session. Don’t miss them at Southpaw Fri 4/1…

(via Daytrotter.com. View the full original post here)

The Brooklyn band, made up of lead singer/guitarist Aaron Lee Tasjan, bassist Mark Stepro, pedal steel player Rich Hinman, drummer Ramblin’ Rob Heath, guitarist Johnny Kengla and piano player Bryn Roberts, taps into the very things that make us wish for endless summers, for those humid nights that are just right for falling in love and staying there. It’s a band that believes in those qualities and in a fountain of youth that will keep us feeling those timid, but true vibrations that come from first kisses and hands in hands. They bring us into the wonderful clutches of summertime, of water balloon fights, legs being shown, dewy grass and the longest days imaginable, days that seem as if they could hover for months.
