We are thrilled to be bringing Baltimore soul legend Winfield Parker to NYC for his first show here in 39 years!

It almost didn’t work out this way. When he began his career in music, Winfield Parker’s name was initially associated with his prowess on the saxophone, and he ultimately joined Little Richard’s band for a time before being encouraged by Rufus Mitchell, the owner of Baltimore’s Ru-Jac Records, to set down the sax and strike out on his own as a solo vocalist.

We are so lucky Winfield listened. His association with Ru-Jac spanned roughly ten 45s, everything from the pounding 4×4 beat on several uptempo cuts like “I love you just the same”, “She’s so pretty”, and “Sweet little girl” to name just a few, to soaring, aching ballads like “Oh my love”, and “Wondering”, and the little-heard funky “Mr. Clean”.

After Ru-Jac, Winfield continued to record prolifically for no less than six other labels including classics like the driving funky “Shake that thing” for Arctic, the slinky “28 ways (she loves me)” for Spring, and the modern soul classic “I wanna be with you” on his own P&L imprint.

Today, Winfield continues to tour regularly both in the US and in Europe (although until now we have been left out here in NYC!), doing both gospel shows, and shows of his soul classics.

For this special soul show, Winfield will be putting together a set of songs from across his career, including a few he has never before performed live since they were first cut in the studio all those years ago. It’s not every day you get to hear a true master of the genre ply his trade – miss this show at your own peril!
