West Memphis Three Benefit w/ Dez Cadena & The Broke Down Bitches

Dig Deeper Presents LEE FIELDS w/ The Sweet Divines Sat May 21!!!

In NYC, Lee is one of the better-known legends of soul and funk we have had the pleasure of working with – but…do you really know Lee Fields? Did you know…

* that Lee Fields was one of the original vocalists for Kool & the Gang?
* that some of his first recordings were done with Dig Deeper alum Lenis Guess?
* that prior to recording at Daptone / Desco, he put records out on 15 different labels?
* that his vocals have been on hit house records in France?

Don’t feel bad, we didn’t know any of that either when we first met Lee.

Ever since Lee’s first show at Dig Deeper in 2008, we have searched high and low for recordings of his that people hadn’t heard. This one – “We fought for survival” on Festival Records, was thought never to have been released, and was un-googlable until we put it up on youtube for you to enjoy:

How could a Lee Fields song that good be unknown? Not for much longer – Lee will be performing this song for the first time in decades on May 21 at Dig Deeper.

At this very special show, Lee will be performing songs from across his career, digging deep into his catalog – aching ballads, blazing funk, and yes, the Sweet Divines & the Divine Soul Rhythm Band will in fact be re-arranging not one, but two of Lee’s French house hits the way they would have been done back in the day. Don’t think they can do it? They tore the roof off last time, in 2008:

At this show, Lee will be backed by the Sweet Divines, who will also be opening the night with their own set. As you know, any night with Lee Fields is a party – and this is one party you will definitely not want to miss!
