Celebrate The Couch Sessions 5 Year Anniversary
Party in Brooklyn on Friday, July 16th
The Couch Sessions, one of America’s leading urban alternative magazines, has teamed up with New York area influencers The Maroon Cafe to produce a 5 Year Extravaganza at Brooklyn’s Southpaw music venue, scheduled for Friday, July 16th at 8:30 PM. Headlining the showcase is Aloe Blacc, as one of R&B’s most prolific singers. With two classic, underground albums under his belt, a hit song featured on HBO’s How to Make It in America, and a new project, Good Things–recorded with Brooklyn’s talented Truth and Soul label–Aloe is on the rise in 2010. Coming off of a well-received European tour, Aloe is set to make waves in New York City in one of his few shows in the New York City area highlighting his new material. Peter Hadar, whose elaborate stage setup (complete with rollergirls!) has been the talk of the New York soul scene for a while now, and will certainly add some spark to the lineup. Hadar’s combination of soul, electronica, and rock has him winning over crowds at residencies at Ella in Manhattan as well as a stint on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show along side Houston rapper Slim Thug.
Starting the night off is none other than Brooklyn’s Kimberly Nichole. The Seattle-born songstress and her combination of R&B sounds with an indie attitude has already garnered her a headlining slot at Manhattan’s Joe’s Pub and Atlanta’s Apache Cafe. “New York has consistently been our number one market, so we wanted to do something special for our fans,” says Couch Sessions creator Winston “Stone” Ford. “The Support from the area has been amazing during the past five years, so we decided to give something back.” Tickets for the show at Southpaw are available at Ticketweb.com for only $10. Friends and media contacts will also enjoy a VIP invite-only afterparty sponsored by Academy Printwear, headlined by none other than the prolific DJ Mick Boogie. Academy will be on hand filming the show for their Academy Life Internet reality series, and Creative Control will be on hand to film highlights of the show for future publication.
