5/21: Americana Pie: a special night of sweet Americana from PALEFACE, Hoots and Helmouth, Among The Oak and Ash, and Daniel Wayne

Get to Know PALEFACE
Schooled personally by friend Daniel Johnston, Paleface was discovered at an NYC open mic by the legendary Danny Fields (The Stooges, The Ramones, MC5), 1990.  He's released over a dozen records including two major label releases (Polydor Records, Sire Records). He's done National tours with the likes of The Breeders and Billy Bragg, and he's been a main influence on artists such as Grammy Award recipients Kimya Dawson and Beck.

"We used to go to all the open mikes together. He taught me Daniel Johnston songs on the sidewalk and let me sleep on his couch. He was a great songwriter, a generous friend, and a big influence on my early stuff'"

-says Beck of Paleface in Annie Leibovitz's book "American Music".

Soon after a Breeders tour, PF collapsed and nearly died from alcohol.  Following long recovery & cleansing  PF returned to NYC's Antifolk scene in the early 2000's and befriended a new breed of artists (The Moldy Peaches/Kimya DawsonAdam GreenRegina Spektor, Jeffrey Lewis, and Langhorne Slim, among others).  Paleface became a major source of influence and inspiration to many of them.

"Paleface is one of my favorite people on the planet" Kimya Dawson (Juno, 2008 Grammy award wining soundtrack)

It was around this time that PALEFACE started self releasing some of his best work yet.  And after finishing a little Americana gem called Just About To Burn,  PF met The Avett Brothers...who fell in love with it "My favorite all-time record by a friend", Seth Avett. Paleface and The Avett Brothers developed a strong bond based on respect and admiration for each others work.  Paleface often shares the stage with The Avetts, and his vocals, instrumentation, and songwriting have been featured on three of their records including a guest performance on The Avett's' recent Rick Rubin-produced release on Columbia.

More than a decade since his last major label release and collapse from alcohol abuse, PALEFACE is back with his Ramseur Records full length debut, The Show Is On The Road, "songs you'd be glad to hum for the rest of the day" PASTE. Soon after the record released back in April, it landed on the CMJ charts and PASTE Magazine featured PALEFACE as "Band Of The Week".

The Show Is On The Road is an intimate, 11-song diary that transcends genres with its ingenuous lyrics and deceptively unassuming style - just Paleface on acoustic guitar and harmonica, his girlfriend Monica "Mo" Samalot on drums and backing vocals, and special performances by friends including labelmates The Avett Brothers. Paleface is the sort of artist who brings you into his world. His voice is sweetly ravaged and effortlessly expressive, as intimate as a friend whispering in your ear. The album is a farewell love letter to his longtime home, New York City, and an embrace of his new life in the South and on the road touring as a dynamic duo with darling "Mo".
PALEFACE and drummer Monica "Mo" Samalot have been charming audiences from coast to coast in support  of The Show Is On The Road...performing at festivals such as Pickathon (OR), Floyd Fest (VA, Shakori Hills (NC), Riverbend (TN), Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion (TN), and South By Southwest Festival / SXSW 2010....along with artists such as Willie Nelson, Dr.Dog, Blitzen Trapper, Justin Townes Earle, Kimya Dawson, Langhorne Slim, Those Darlins, and Joe Doe and The Saddies, among many others.... And the duo recently showcased at Non-Comm, a Triple A Radio event, sponsored by WXPN and World Cafe (Delta Spirit, Elvis Perkins, Black Joe Lewis, Pete Yorn, Jessica Lea Mayfiield, The Avett Brothers and Heartless Bastards among others).
The duo is currently on tour and they just finished recording a follow-up with producer Paul "Ena" Kostabi (Cults, The Willowz, Dee Dee Ramone).
