BAM’s Sounds Like Brooklyn Music Festival celebrates some of the best music from the borough with two weekends packed with concerts at BAM and at clubs all over Brooklyn. Featuring artists from Bed-Stuy to Brighton Beach and everywhere in between, Sounds like Brooklyn showcases Brooklyn’s vibrant and diverse music music scene.
SOUTHPAW’S offering sticks to the diversity that makes this borough so great. Rock, Latin, funk, electro, Japanese gyspy folk, Delta blues, New Orleans jazz, old-fashioned country and post-modern soul, and of course The Prigs who can only be described as a party machine of equal parts E Street Band, Pogues and Huey Lewis. .

Dynasty Electric
Dynasty Electric are essentially a duo of vocalist/ keyboardist Jennifer DeVeau and guitar/sax/keys man Seth Misterka. The material has a great 80s meets ’00s vibe as one can hear influences ranging from vets like Blondie, Missing Persons and Romeo Void to more modern day acts such as Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Goldfrapp, The Rapture and Peaches.
DALANSHAR In the summer of 2009, singer-songwriter Richard Shepherd had reached the end of a long writing process which had begun at the end of 2006 with the demise of his former group Palm Pictures recording artist Radio Mundial. Richard then put together a tight band consisting of bass player/composer extraordinaire, Jonathan Barnes, and keyboardist, Lace Novak. Dalanshar has built a sound bridge with a foundation based on incessant rhythms, dynamic vocals, 80’s-style synthesizers and structurally efficient compositions that their ever expanding audience will continue to cross.

THE PRIGS, featuring members of St. Vincent, Tigercity, Kaki King, have created a world of unbridled fun. Close your eyes at a Prigs show and you might find yourself visualizing images of the E Street Band brawling with The Pogues (after too many shots of whiskey). But with eyes wide open, you’ll feel like you’re watching a Mardi Gras float detonate in an 11-piece sonic assault. While one can chart a course through the band’s many disparate influences — olde time Irish jigs, The Who, Balkan reels, Huey Lewis – what shines through to their audiences is their core message of celebration and joy.
THE WOES blend Delta blues, New Orleans jazz, old-fashioned country and post-modern soul into a rollicking, often raucous gumbo. Banjo, tuba, accordion, French horn, pedal steel and a Fender Rhodes electric piano float through the mix, along with an entire music store’s worth of brass and percussion and a small army of folks singing, clapping and foot-stomping.
